I bought the Sony Mavica FD88 for my video production business. I only put it aside when I purchased a $600 Pentax K100D. Most digital cameras, and I have purchased a few and ended up with the same bad results indoors and up close. Current digital camers require the operator to hold the camera steady for about ten or twelve seconds while the flash works and the image is saved. With the FD88 the instant you take the flash shot, your work is done. While the camera saves the image you are free to move the camera as much as you like. With the camera switched to the Macro mode, you can almost set the lens down on the subject to take a picture. The only reason to pull back a little bit is to allow light on the subject. I generally used the FD88 with the 640x480 setting (TV ratio) and produced images for video production and the internet. This is a excellent camera and extremely useful.Another fabulous feature of this camera is the 8x optical lens. While digital camera brag about a zoom lens that in extreme double digits, they really only have an optical zoom of 2 or 3x. All they do is increase the size of the image digitally, which means they increase the size of the pixels rather than the true image. The FD88 has the 8x optical and 16x digital (which I never use) lens.
Like most digital cameras that promise video and still images, this camera delivers on one level: photographs. If you want video, get yourself a video camera.

Sony's Mavica digital camera stores images on an ordinary 3.5-inch floppy disk, rather than on little memory cards. That means there's no expensive accessories to buy. The MVCFD88 is a megapixel camera with a true resolution of 1280 x 960, giving it a pixel count of about 1.2 million. That's enough to allow decent-looking printouts at typical snapshot sizes (4x6). In addition to its still-image function, the camera has a built-in microphone and can capture up to 60 seconds of motion video in MPG format with 160 x 112 pixels; video recording up to 15 seconds in MPG format with 320 x 240 pixels; sound recording up to 5 seconds per image. A nice feature found throughout the Mavica line is a disk copy function. It uses the internal memory as a temporary cache, allowing you to copy the entire contents of a floppy onto another disk even when you're not at a computer.Details
